In the latest episode of Axya’s Data Driven Supply Chain podcast, we spoke with Caroline Robin, Director of Consulting Services at Logient, a consulting firm specializing in technological transformation.
With a background in marketing communications and law, Caroline was quickly drawn to the manufacturing industry, where she discovered a passion for helping companies tackle labor shortages, digital transformation projects, and more.
Although many companies are hesitant to bring in external consultants, they can often be the key to increased efficiency and a successful transformation. While your team may be experts in your field, consultants can become “project experts,” bringing a fresh perspective to long-standing challenges.
It’s essential to break down each project into multiple phases: analysis, implementation, discussion, etc. The criteria for a year-long project may evolve as new requirements and data emerge. For a transformation to be sustainable and successfully implemented, you need to prepare for a project that will evolve through its stages as new information is uncovered.
Engage employees at all levels of the company during a transformation. Each stakeholder will have a unique perspective and a list of things they want to change. While executives may have an overview of the company, it’s crucial to have in-depth discussions with frontline employees—those who work closely with your manufacturing technologies daily.
When planning the budget for a transformation project, teams should consider not only the financial costs but also the opportunity costs—that is, what the company would lose if it didn’t go through a digital transformation.
Take your time when starting the digital transformation process. Move at your own pace and leverage the data you have on your business, customers, and processes when making decisions. This will allow you to better understand your strengths, weaknesses, and future goals before beginning the optimization process.
