Tracking Scope 3 GHGs Emission with Oxia and Axya

Tracking Scope 3
Axya is proud to collaborate with OXIA Initiative to form a sustainability alliance!Reducing greenhouse gases (GHGs) have been a hallmark of board discussions among forward looking manufacturers. The customers being much more sensitive to the sustainability of the products they are consuming are demanding clear actions from the company they are supporting towards a greener future. As manufacturers, reducing your own operations carbon GHGs is a challenge and the need of tight internal monitoring is required.
The GHGs emission from a reporting organisation is called scope 1 when it’s coming directly from owned source and scope 2 from the indirect emission of the purchased energy to run the operation (Ref: Greenhouse Gas Protocol). However, we know that to stay competitive in the current market, not everything can be made in-house. To cut costs while keeping high-quality manufacturers need to partner up with other manufacturers specializing in very specific sub-component of the final product.Tracking the emission of these sub-components, called Scope 3 emissions, are notoriously difficult. Scope 3 is defined as emissions coming from assets not owned by the reporting organization, but that indirectly affect the value chain for the end-product delivered (Ref: EPA).The scope 3 emission of one organization is the scope 1 and 2 emissions of another. Interestingly, currently in most industries scope 3 emission represents the majority of an organization's total GHG emission!
Oxia and Axya Alliance
This is why today Axya is partnering with the Oxia Initiative! The Oxia Initiative designs methodologies and tools for measuring GHG emissions, in synergy with investors, investees, and governments. This collaboration will enable customers from our strategic sourcing platform to receive scope 3 GHGs emission reports from participating suppliers which will help them take proactive steps to be more sustainable.Sharing this sort of information from suppliers to buyers isn’t simple currently, especially through antiquated systems.Coupled with the pressure put on global supply chains it makes going the extra mile to share GHGs emissions a prohibitively time-consuming process. This alliance closes this gap by leveraging the expertise of Oxia Initiative to measure GHGs emissions with Axya expertise in sharing quickly critical business information between buyers and suppliers.
