Fondée en 1974, L’atelier d’affûtage du Saguenay a été la première entreprise à offrir des services d’affûtage aux particuliers ainsi qu’aux entreprises du Saguenay Lac St-Jean.
À ses débuts, l’entreprise est située au sous-sol de la résidence de son fondateur, M. Marc Lavoie, qui effectuait l’affûtage de lames de scies et de couteaux. Vu la demande croissante de ses services, l’entreprise déménage vers des locaux commerciaux jusqu’à la construction du bâtiment actuel en 1984.

Grâce à son ingéniosité et sa polyvalence, l’entreprise  met sur pied les départements d’usinage & de soudure en 1998 ainsi que de conception & de fabrication en 2005. En 2008, l’équipe de conception du Groupe Sabec développe le procédé de recouvrement CarbideWall ™ pour les alumineries. Suite à la diversification de ses produits et services, l’Atelier d’Affûtage du Saguenay devient, en 2012, Le Groupe Sabec. Le nom Sabec provient des noms de Saguenay et Québec.

La réussite du Groupe Sabec est possible grâce aux talents et aux efforts de tous les membres de son équipe qui se nombrent aujourd’hui à une vingtaine d’employés. Pour le futur, Le Groupe Sabec souhaite conquérir les marchés internationaux dans la conception et la fabrication d’outillage de performance pour de l’équipement industriel et devenir une référence mondiale dans ce domaine.
